Karmann Japan Turnaround
CBI’s First Major Project: A Case of Resilience and Strategic Leadership
CBI’s journey began with an ambitious greenfield project – building a production plant in Japan from scratch. We grew the company from the ground up to around 250 employees while providing a full external board to manage local operations.
Just as production started, the German headquarters of the parent company declared insolvency. In this critical moment, Japan stood as the only globally profitable entity. Working closely with the insolvency administrators, we took control, ensured business continuity, restructured operations, and eventually sold the company to one of its largest competitors.
This high-stakes challenge demanded exceptional resilience, innovative thinking, and an unwavering commitment to securing the business’s future. The restructuring was successfully completed in 2010 when we sold the business to MAGNA CTS, and CBI remained actively involved in the new venture until 2013.
